    The Scout reviews Gameweek 5

The Scout is still catching his breath after a sumptuous Sunday of Barclays Premier League action. The Gameweek gone by had some brilliant individual displays, with Yakubu topping the EA SPORTS Player Performance Index for a crucial brace at home to Arsenal, while all three promoted clubs grabbed themselves wins to feature heavily in the bonus points.

Here’s the Scout’s bonus breakdown for Gameweek five:

    Aston Villa 1-1 Newcastle United

The draw at Villa Park saw the bonus points fall mainly to the goal scorers, as both sides maintained their unbeaten starts to the campaign. Leon Best was awarded 3 bonus for a display that included 2 shots on target, 1 goal and 1 dribble, Gabby Agbonlahor continued his revival under Alex McLeish’s regime, earning 2 bonus for his goal and a completed dribble, while the combative Chiek Tiote also picked up 2 for 21 passes, 3 crosses and the assist for Best’s goal.

    Blackburn Rovers 4-3 Arsenal

Yakubu earned 3 bonus points for his two goals in Blackburn Rovers’ home win over Arsenal, while team mate Steven N’Zonzi was awarded 2 bonus for a steely display that included 4 clearances, 1 block and an assist. Despite tasting defeat, Mikel Arteta received 1 point for a performance that saw the Spaniard complete included 37 passes, 2 dribbles and notch his first Gunners goal in the early Saturday kick-off.

    Bolton Wanderers 1-2 Norwich City

Norwich City’s triumph at the Reebok saw their players monopolise the bonus point awards. Anthony Pilkington’s goal, in addition to 2 successful tackles and 1 interception earned the midfielder all 3 bonus. Leon Barnett’s 2 tackles won, 3 interceptions and 3 blocks at the back for the Canaries earned him 2 bonus while Steve Morison flourished as the lone striker, earning 1 bonus with an interception, block and 2 dribbles to his name.

    Everton 3-1 Wigan Athletic

Everton’s Phil Jagielka had an influential match at both ends of the pitch and picked up 3 bonus points. The centre half scored a crucial equaliser for the Toffees and also won 2 tackles in addition to a clearance, a block and an interception in the victory. Tony Hibbert’s 6 successful tackles and a smart assist for Everton’ second earned the full-back 2 bonus while Apostolos Vellios came off the bench to fetch 2 bonus for his headed goal as David Moyes’ side notched their first home win of the season, having fallen behind to Franco Di Santo’s strike.

    Fulham 2-2 Manchester City

No surprise to see Sergio Aguero claim the 3 bonus once again; his double at Craven Cottage was also supplemented by 2 successful crosses and dribbles. The home side’s comeback earned bonus for both their goal scorers- Danny Murphy grabbed 2 points for his equaliser in addition to some solid defensive work that saw him make 2 blocks, win 1 tackle and make an interception, while Bobby Zamora’s goal and assist earned the forward the remaining bonus point.

    Manchester United 3-1 Chelsea

Nani’s goal and assist, in addition to 5 dribbles and 6 crosses saw the Man United winger pick up 3 bonus points for a telling contribution in the 3-1 win over Chelsea. Fellow wide man Ashley Young grabbed 2 bonus for an assist, 5 crosses, 1 dribble and a successful tackle, while Chris Smalling received 1 bonus for his early first-half goal in addition to 2 clearances at the back.

    Sunderland 4-0 Stoke City

The home side dominated bonus points as they condemned Stoke City to their first loss of the season with a crushing defeat at the Stadium of Light. Craig Gardner earned the maximum 3 bonus for a strong all-round performance – his EA SPORTS PPI stats show 2 successful tackles, 3 clearances and 1 interception, while going forward the midfielder also had 2 shots on target, resulting in a goal, as Sunderland recorded their first league win of the season in emphatic fashion. Titus Bramble picked up 2 bonus for a goal and 3 successful tackles and 1 block, as he helped his side to a clean sheet, while Seb Larsson’s goal, 2 assists and 5 tackles over his sixty-two minute appearance earned the winger 1 bonus point.

Swansea City 3-0 West Bromwich Albion

A goal and an assist on his first league start for Swansea City saw Leroy Lita earn top bonus billing. The fleet-footed Nathan Dyer grabbed 2 bonus for his goal as Brendan Rodgers’ side picked up their first win of the campaign, while Scott Sinclair picked up just 1 bonus for a goal and assist combination – despite his contribution, the winger had 2 shots off target and lost 2 tackles in the victory.

    Tottenham Hotspur 4-0 Liverpool

The home side deservedly shared the bonus for dismissing a meek display from Liverpool on Sunday afternoon. Former Arsenal favourite Emmanuel Adebayor endeared himself to the Tottenham fans on his home debut with 2 goals, 6 interceptions and 2 dribbles to earn the maximum bonus points, while fellow goalscorer Luka Modric picked up 2 bonus for 3 shots on target and an impressive 58 passes. Jermain Defoe also found the net and, with 4 shots on target throughout the ninety minutes, was awarded 1 bonus.

Wolverhampton Wanderers 0-3 Queens Park Rangers

Queens Park Rangers’ brilliant 3-0 win at Molineux saw Alejandro Faurlin pick up the maximum bonus with a goal, interception and block amongst his EA SPORTS PPI stats, while an all-action display earned Joey Barton 2 bonus, with a goal, assist and 6 tackles to his name. Shaun Wright-Phillips claimed the remainder for an assist, 3 dribbles, 2 shots on target and 3 successful tackles.
